Elder Scrolls Online Just Became Clash of Clans With Terribly Awful New MicroTransactions

The Elder Scrolls Online is becoming Clash of Clans. Bethesda's and Zenimax online MMO is going to allow you to convert your real, hard earned cash into Crown Currency in order to purchase XP boost and health potions. Many other items including costumes, mounts etc will also be able to be purchased. Cited as a way to add "customization and convenience" (which is in reality complete and total crap), the Crown store real money purchase options are a sham. Take a look at what Director Matt Firor had to say about the new addition to Tamriel Unlimited

This gives the player a choice: spend some crowns to get potions right now, or play a while to earn in-game gold and then spend it either at a vendor, another player, or at a Guild Store. The easiest way to take advantage of the Crown Store and Tamriel Unlimited is to be an ESO Plus member. As a member, you'll get bonuses to many in-game levelling systems (experience point gain, inspiration gain for crafting, etc.), 1500 crowns to spend in the Crown Store each month, and access to all DLC game packs for the duration of your membership.

We had to read this a few times to make sure we understood it correctly. Now, Elder Scrolls Tamriel Unlimited comes to consoles Xbox One and PS4 on June 9th. As we know, the subscription plan is going to be removed and only the standard Xbox Live Gold or PS Plus package will be required. But here's the thing, Zenimax Online has cited that none of these things will impact the core gameplay. Bull. Crap. See that part six lines up where you get 1500 crowns to spend each month. You get that if you continue to pay. So, you don't HAVE to pay (wink, wink) but if you do, we'll give you 1500 crowns you can use in the store to buy items?? How does this not affect core gameplay? Right off the bat these players have a leg up and can buy more items.

Also, right off the bat players that want to spend money have a leg up. So, you're telling us that if you drop a Ben Franklin on healing potions and XP boosts that doesn't "impact core gameplay" for others who can't afford it? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. All things impact gameplay, XP boosts help you level up faster. Healing potions help you, well, heal faster as well as more opportunities to heal that others may not have in a much needed situation.

You can see the information in the Matt Firor's blog post here and we're sad to say that this drastically impacts our expectations for Elder Scrolls Tamriel Unlimited. There is only a certain level you can reach when you have pay to win games in a set up like this. If you still plan on purchasing it, Clash of Cl......errr......Tamriel Unlimited released June 9th on both Xbox One and PS4.
