The premiere trailer for Destructive Creations' first game Hatred launched October 16th and was the immediate recipient of knee jerk reaction and criticism. The game's site describes the game as
"Hatred is an isometric shooter with disturbing atmosphere of mass killing, where player takes the role of a cold blood antagonist, who is full of hatred for humanity"
We reached out to Destructive Creations and were able to speak to their Creative Designer Jakub Stychno on Hatred's design and inspiration. Almost immediately after the trailer dropped, the internet went ablaze with criticism and hypocrisy aplenty. People criticizing Hatred's poor taste while reveling in Grand Theft Auto V and giving it 9/10's on reviews. I asked Mr. Stychno a number of questions on Hatred during our conversation on the show Tuesday evening and got a lot of good information on the upcoming title. The full discussion can be heard below with some selections transcribed. I asked Mr. Stychno about their team and the inspiration beyond Hatred. Destructive Creations consists of ten friends who wanted to make a game and have known each other for years. As far as inspiration, he stated that they have wanted to make this type of game for a while. Expecting the type of knee jerk reactions the trailer received, I asked Mr. Stychno about his reaction to some of the comments he saw. He stated that "Most people are trying to be polite and give players excuses. We weren't trying to do that".
Whether you like this type of game or not is irrelevant because you don't have to play. What is relevant, however, is Destructive Creations' right to make whatever game they choose. With everything going in the realm of gamergate, the outlets that have been criticizing Destructive Creations for making such a game should be ashamed of themselves and I said as much on our show Tuesday night. Besides, how are you going to give GTA V a 9/10 then say you're embarrassed to be associated with a company that does the same thing GTA V does? It's hypocrisy. I wanted to speak with Mr. Stychno on these topics and got some good answers. Some are listed below but you can hear the full audio beginning at the 18:45 mark from our show Tuesday evening. Enjoy.
Q. Does the character the trailer portrays have a name and back story involved?
A. Well, we tend to call him the antagonist but you don't really know his real name. All you know about him is he's deep rooted hatred. We'll leave everything to the player.
Q. Will we be able to customize the character's looks or weapons?
A. Well, we didn't really want to do that but today, just today, we had an idea to make it and we still didn't decide. Maybe not customize but changing model of it for different character.
Q. You mean like adding an additional character type of thing?
A. Yeah, that's right.
Q. I didn't see it in the trailer, but are there any children in the game that get hurt?
A. No, that's, no that's even to much for us.
I also spoke with Mr. Stychno on a number of topics from the struggles with bringing Hatred to consoles to its story's plot and respawn/character progression setup. Hatred is still on target for its release on PC in Q2 2015. Be sure to listen to the full interview below during our conversation on our show last night.
