After a reveal at The Game Awards last month, Psychonauts 2 has been successfully crowdfunded for $3.3 million dollars and will continue development.
The campaign, which is on newcomer Fig backing site, passed its goal with over five days to go. A sequel to the first game, Psychonauts 2 sees Raz finally make his way to Psychonauts HQ but things quickly take a turn for the worse. Other than that, we really know nothing about the game so far as its release is about two and a half years away.
After receiving the $3.3 million, Double Fine and another mystery partner are covering the remaining $10 million or so in development costs. Although we don't have an identity, rest assured it's not Microsoft or Sony as the game will be releasing on multiple platforms; Xbox One, PS4 as well as PC. Although the game has been funded, you can still support the project as either a backer or investor, which allows you to see a financial return on your investment based on how well the game sells. It's a new take on the crowdfunding aspect which sets Fig apart from others such as Kickstarter.
