Microsoft has confirmed it is in fact only the codes being released and two weeks early was chosen to help minimize server issues for the game close to and at launch.

So, here's an interesting little thing Amazon did. It appears they have a listing for Gears of War Ultimate Edition digital code for Xbox One. Now, by itself this is no big deal with the exception that the listed date is August 11th. The official release date is August 25th as far as we've been told by Microsoft son were unsure exactly what this means. We've reached out to Microsoft to confirm but for now it looks like Gears of War UE purchasers will get the game two weeks early. 

Of course, it may just be the code for download with the game blocked until the 25th, but if so why release it two weeks early. We'll let you know what we hear.
