Nintendo has finally announced that their new console, the NX, will launch worldwide in March 2017. The announcement was made as part of an E3 announcement which also focused on The Legend of Zelda.
For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept. NX will be launched in March 2017 globally,”
Another interesting revelation is that company has confirmed some sort of "smart device" integration. Rumors of a smart phone connected controller or controller with interactive images have been swirling for a while and we now know that they are true. To what extent, of course, is still a mystery
“For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” which is a brand-new concept, and our unique software-led hardware-software integrated business will continue to constitute the core business for Nintendo. For the purpose of maximizing the population that interacts with Nintendo IP, we have entered into the smart device gaming business.
“We will aim to create a synergetic effect between the smart device business and Nintendo’s dedicated game system business to maximize the Nintendo businesses overall by growing our smart device business so that it is profitable on its own while continuously strengthening our connection with our consumers by enhancing features of our new membership service called My Nintendo”
Perhaps the most obvious announcement is that The Legend of Zelda Wii U has been officially delayed until the launch of the NX in March. It's been rumored for a while, ever since NX details started to emerge, but this is the first we've heard from Nintendo themselves. Zelda will be the primary focus at E3 for Nintendo and now releases simultaneously on both NX and Wii U in March 2017. It's unfortunate as many bought a Wii U solely for Zelda, but not a decision that was overall that surprising. Zelda was originally scheduled to release later this year.
