Why do gamers behave like entitled, whiny bitches?

Seriously, it really needs to stop.

The whininess and cry babying that has been going on recently in the gaming community needs to stop. It all started a long time ago, but has since been exacerbated by whiny gamers asking for refunds or compensation. Most recently a few days ago, someone posted a message on Reddit asking "Has Microsoft even thought about compensation for the last two weeks".  Why is this needed? Xbox Live wasn't permanently down and those impacted were down for a very short time. I was personally affected as well and I couldn't care less.

Back in January, Sony agreed to extend the membership of PS Plus members for all those impacted by a 12 hour outage. 12 hours. That's it. You may think that's a long tme in general if you're itching to play, but it's really not. Let's do some simple math. The standard PS Plus membership costs $60 a year. That comes down to $.16 a day, or a wallet breaking $.08 for the 12 hours you were affected. So, for $.08 gamers show their inner cry baby and whine for free games or extensions. Stop being a whiny d-bag.

The truth is these networks don't really go down often. PSN hardly went down at all in 2015 and was decent, surprisingly, through Christmas. Xbox Live was as well. When Xbox Live first started, it did so with only 500 servers. When the Xbox One released in 2013 the count was up to 300,000. Gamers have to understand that not only did technology for the gaming networks themselves increase, but so did the technology available to hackers and DDOS douchebags. If someone wants to take down a website, whether it's PSN or XBL or Steam, there is nothing you can do about it. Read that Reddit post linked above with Major Nelson. His response is the company line of basically "we're looking into it and will let you know". That's fine, but he doesn't have to do anything. To be honest, and you may not like to hear this, he SHOULDN'T do anything. If your power goes out from a rainstorm do you call the electrical company and ask for a 2 hour credit on your bill in order to save like $.30? No. Why should it be any different?

There's an old expression called the "Just shut up factor". Basically, it means that if you keep complaining about something over and over, even if you are right, eventually people will just say "Ok dude just shut up" and ignore you. This is what's going on here as gamers are becoming their own worst enemy. Do you really need a credit for like an hour outage of Xbox Live, PSN or Steam? The more you complain about useless nonsense like this, the more these companies will just fluff up a response and do nothing. Why not save it for a real emergency, like if the system goes down for a real long time?

This continues with exclusive games as well. Just look at comments in articles. They hardly consist of any tangible response and are otherwise just fan-boyisms. Quantum Break was originally Xbox One exclusive and is now coming to PC as well. Of course, Xbots flipped out like this really mattered at all. News flash. It doesn't. So what, more people are going to get to play a game you like and what to play. Who cares. Even Phil Spencer had the same response on Twitter.

This is the nonsense I'm talking about. To be honest, if you follow the crap gamer on twitter this is par for the course as most of his reponses are fan-boyisms. He's also example #1 of the "Just shut up factor". It's not like they announced it's going to PS4 only now and not Xbox One. It's still a Microsoft owned property and a Microsoft exclusive. Oh yeah, and you also get the Windows 10 version FREE if you pre-order the Xbox One version. So, what is the problem again exactly? This stuff is going to happen. When you fly off the handle right away with some emotional response, rather than taking a couple minutes and look at things logically, it's a mistake. The first time, that is. After that, you're just a whiny bitch.

Why does this occur though? After all, that's the question at hand, right. It's quite simple actually. It's because it's easier to get a handout and "make the boo-boo fell better" than to actually analyze something logically. This is true. It is easier. It's not right, however. Since zero of us have any clue as to how to make a gaming network work in the slightest way, it's the "oh well, I'll just bitch about it rather than learn how it actually fucking works". It's like you're all clones of the Bobby Bouchet's mom from The Waterboy "SCHOOL!! SCHOOL IS THE DEVIL!" I mean, I feel you guys, it's totally right to ignore the logic behind a situation and just cry about things.......#sigh

Here's a novel idea. We are living in the golden age of video games RIGHT NOW! At no point ever before was there such excitement for games on all platforms. Whether It's Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, Windows 10, or mobile games, each platform has made some extravagent progress and has incredible exclusives lined up. I know this will probably come as a shock to most of you, but why don't we do this? Whatever platform you play on, here's what you should do barring an ACTUAL EMERGENCY. Remember what gaming is actually supposed to be. Stop disconnecting from the community. Get your favorite gaming snack. Get your favorite gaming drink. Turn on your system of choice. Load up the game you want to play and SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP. Sounds good, right? I know, this may be an impossible task for some of you, but I have faith. I believe in all of you.

So, have fun, keep gaming.

And seriously, stop being whiny bitches. No one likes whiny bitches.
