Along with Wreck it Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet and The Incredibles 2 information revealed today, Disney's John Lasseter revealed plans for a new movie during the D23 Expo. It will be film in the Cars/Planes franchise set in outer space. Lasseter noted that the film does not have a title yet, jokingly saying that it's harder to pick a title than to go to outer space.

In the brief little clip shown in announcing the film, we saw two jets (based on the ones from the Planes movie) ripping through the desert before going into our space. The words Disney: Space appeared on screen, before the entire phrase showed up poking a little fun at the absence of a title "This Space to Be Filled by a Title When We Think of One.” Cars 3 is in theaters now and wraps up the career of Lightning McQueen. Most of us thought that this would be the end of the franchise, and mostly is for Cars. With three movies in the works compared to only two for Planes, this space venture will most likely be the final go around as well. No word if Dusty CropHopper will be retrofited to survive in space, but it would be interesting, right?

The release date for the film is set for April 12th, 2019. What is interesting about this is that it is before Toy Story 4, which releases later that year on June 21st, 2019. Two films that close together has never been done before by Disney/Pixar, and it will interesting to see how it pans out. The footage shown was not available online, but only to those present at the event today. We'll keep our eye out for the official teaser, and update you when it goes live.
