Along with Wreck it Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks the Internet, Disney Pixar announced some exciting news about The Incredibles 2 at the D23 Expo today. It's been 14 years since the first movie was released, and fans were wondering exactly how long afterward the sequel would be set. After all, both kids would be out of college and only Jack-Jack would be in high school at 15 years old. As interesting as this may have been, it really wasn't logistically feasible to be honest.
John Lasseter, the Creative Chief at Pixar, told IGN that the film would be set immediately after the first one ends. As soon as the Parr's put on their masks when the Underminer emerges from the ground is when the film will start.
"It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on. It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece. You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that's where start this movie. "One of the unique things about the Incredibles is it's really a story of a family set in the world of superheroes. This one carries on that theme. It's awesome, the idea we came up with -- simple as that. ... We love to really look at our own lives and look at what's going on, and find themes that we know will resonate with the audience."
The Incredibles 2 will surely set all kinds of records when it releases on June 18th, 2018. It was originally set for a June 2019 release, but swapped spots with Toy Story 4. That film will see Woody in search of his love Little Bo Beep, who was absent from Toy Story 3. Frozone, Edna Mole are returning, and surely some new people may pop into the mix as well. Hopefully, we get a trailer soon as we are one year away from release.
