Details for The Flash season 4 have been officially revealed today, and we now know the main villain and release date that Team Flash will go up against. Of course, at the end of season 3 we saw Barry sacrifice himself to the speed force after defeating Savitar once and for all. Barry entered the speed force after saying goodbye to the team in order to save Star City and the world from destruction, as someone had to take Savitar's place. Personally, I think Garrick should have gone back in since they saved him in the first place, but that's another story.

Today, we find out that the season premiere will take place on October 10th at 8PM. The date has been known, but the title of the episode is taken straight from the comics. It's titled "The Flash: Reborn", which is ripped from The Flash: Rebirth. Now, that version saw Barry come back from a totally different situation than his current predicament, but it shows that they will be getting Barry out of the speed force much sooner than we expected. Nobody really expected Barry to stay in the speed force for too long, considering you can't really have  a show called The Flash without a Flash. The season premiere, however, is a bit sooner. To be honest, I figured it would be about three episodes in that he would be rescued.

The official synopsis of season 4 is as follows:

Running up against an evil time remnant version of yourself is something no one should ever have to do, but that’s exactly what faced Barry Allen (aka The Flash) as he fought to save the life of fiancée Iris West from the God of Speed known as Savitar. Barry’s victory was short-lived, however, as an unbalanced Speed Force began to wreak havoc on Central City, forcing Barry to sacrifice himself for the greater good. With The Fastest Man Alive now trapped inside an extra-dimensional energy, and unknown dangers lurking in the shadows, it will be up to Team Flash to free Barry from his own personal Hell.

Now, we pretty much knew that, but the identity of the villain has also been confirmed. We've known for a while that the main villain won't be a speedster. This makes it more difficult to give Barry a formidable foe as with no super speed, Barry could simply arrest him, knock him out, etc. The leaked name in a couple of season 3 episodes, however, has been confirmed as the main villain. That is Clifford Davoe, aka The Thinker. In the comics, Davoe was an attorney who was able to use a device called 'the thinking cap' to amplify his brain power. He used this to help criminals, who as an attorney, he observed get caught for dumb reasons.

We don't know the extent that the CW will go to in using Davoe's powers, as there are a couple of options. They could simply give him some sort of sixth sense allowing him to stay one step ahead of Barry. On the other hand, the Thinker could possess the ability to control certain objects as well. At the end of season 3, we saw Savitar Barry tell Iris and good Barry about developing a neuro inhibitor to stop Davoe. This leads us to believe that he will possess some sort of mental control, and Barry will need the inhibitor to take advantage of his speed in order to take him down.

We have a bit to go as we are under the 100 days mark to the beginning of season 4 as we are at the 97 day mark now. Cisco and the team have their work cut out for them, and we can't wait to see how the break Barry out of the speed force. Let us know what you think below.
