The first Godzilla film a few years back really wasn't that good. We can be honest, right? Lots of build up, hardly any monster at all and a lackluster end fight. This changed when Legendary announced their newest universe, beginning with the second film Kong: Skull Island. It received high marks from nearly all outlets, and it seemed the studio listened to the feedback as it was nearly all fighting, all the time.
Fast forward to this past weekend and we have the first, official synopsis for Godzilla: King of the Monsters. It doesn't seem like Legendary is letting up on the action, as three, classic villains have been confirmed to appear and fight in Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah.
The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.
We are almost two years away from the film releasing, as Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters on March 22nd, 2019. The final film, Godzilla vs. Kong, will release the following year on May 29th, 2020. Hopefully, the same type of fighting which occurred in Skull Island continues onto King of the Monsters.
